THE BIG GUN SHOW

The Big Gun Show is a local Austin band that plays music heavily influenced by what Gunter call Keith Richards’ “Golden Era.”  He defines it as the period from 69 to 73 when Mick Taylor was playing slide and Parsons was exuding his sway on Keith.  It’s rock n roll with a honky tonk Americana twist.

They play venues such as the Saxon Pub, Continental Club, Stubbs, etc. since 2010. They also have a monthly happy hour residency at The Little Longhorn Saloon on the first Friday of every month. Being a songwriting fanatic, Gunter uses these happy hours to showcase new up and coming local songwriters.

Imagine a song swap in the basement of Villa Nellcôte among outlaws Haggard & Waylon, sided by modern day honky tonker Charlie Robison. Also in the circle are members of Jet, Lucero and The Eagles. Graham Parsons demonstrates country stylings to Keith as Ray Wylie Hubbard makes Jagger and Freddie King laugh while they wail in unison like old, drunken friends.

It’s a sound that Alan Harrison at the Rocking Magpie describes as, “Crashing

guitars and a singer that sounds like he’s been living on cigarettes, beer and

French Kisses since leaving the crib.” Ear Buzz says, “Gunter's voice brings on

the smoky roadhouse feel in spades.”  A&R Factory states, “The Big Gun Show

are more than just an assimilation of nostalgic sound, they’ve mixed their

penchant with the iconic with their eagerness to swim in the contemporary

tides of sound to create truly spectacular Country Rock.” Think Rolling Stones,

Steve Earle and Ray Wylie Hubbard.
